Who is the course for?

This course provides instruction in correct operation of Excavator 360 above 10T for operators who will be using such machines on site. It provides training as referred to in the laws relating to work equipment and health and safety, and is accredited by the Construction Plant Competence Scheme (CPCS) or National Plant Operators Registration Scheme (NPORS).

Course Content Includes:

  • Role and responsibility as a plant operator
  • Basic construction, names of components and the purpose and use of all controls and gauges
  • Principle components, basic construction, controls & terminology
  • Relevant regulations & legislation
  • Pre-use, start, running checks and close-down procedure
  • Negotiating rough ground & steep inclines
  • Manoeuvring in confined spaces
  • Configuring for excavating duties
  • Hazards, underground & overhead services
  • Excavation & ground types
  • Grading, levelling & spreading
  • Placing materials into vehicles
  • Lifting, moving & placing basic loads
  • Travelling with slung loads
  • Shutdown & securing procedures
  • Carry out plant shut down and securing procedures
  • Explain the loading and unloading procedures for machine transporting
  • Maintain a safe and tidy working area.

Completion of the course:

Candidates will take a verbal theory test, and complete a practical assessment. Successful candidates will receive a 2 Year CPCS Category A59B or NPORS N202 Red Trained Operator card.

Operatives with more experience can add on the NVQ assessment at the same time to progress straight to the 5 Year CPCS or NPORS Blue Competent Operator card.

Prerequisites

You must have a basic understanding and knowledge of current Health & Safety issues.

The CITB Operatives Health & Safety touch screen test must be current and in date. (Completed within the last 24 months).
