Agricultural Tractor Training Course

Who is the course for?

This course provides instruction in correct operation of an agricultural tractor for operators who will be using such machines on site. It provides training as referred to in the laws relating to work equipment and health and safety, and is accredited by the Construction Plant Competence Scheme (CPCS) or National Plant Operators Registration Scheme (NPORS).

Course Content Includes:

  • Have a basic understanding of the industry, the dangers of working in the industry and their responsibilities as an operator
  • Have a working knowledge of the manufacturer’s handbook for the particular machine to be used
  • Be able to locate and identify the major components of the machine and explain their functions
  • Be able to locate and identify key controls and explain their functions
  • Set up exclusion zone
  • Conduct all pre-operational checks in accordance with manufacturer’s and legislative legislative requirements
  • Identify and maintain PPE appropriate for agricultural tractor use
  • Prepare the agricultural tractor for use
  • Conduct all necessary safety checks at the work area
  • Attach and set trailers, mounted and PTO drives ready for operation
  • Operate machinery safely and efficiently
  • Environmental considerations
  • Storage and transport of implements and attachments
  • Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of loading and unloading procedures for machine transportation
  • Carry out all end of shift and shut down procedures

Completion of the course:

Candidates will take a verbal theory test, and complete a practical assessment. Successful candidates will receive a 2 Year CPCS Category A33 or NPORS N601 Red Trained Operator card.

Operatives with more experience can add on the NVQ assessment at the same time to progress straight to the 5 Year CPCS or NPORS Blue Competent Operator card.

Prerequisites

You must have a basic understanding and knowledge of current Health & Safety issues.

The CITB Operatives Health & Safety touch screen test must be current and in date. (Completed within the last 24 months).
